The Happy Reader

The Happy Reader

I picked up The Happy Reader on a whim when I came across it in Anthropologie. I've never heard of it but with a title like that I couldn't resist and I wasn't disappointed.

The first part of the issue is an indepth interview with Lily Cole, pictured on the cover. I enjoyed the interview as it was actually quite lengthy and the two covered a lot of topics. I felt like I was privy to a conversation rather than a rapid fire question period.

The second part covers the issue's selected topic of the novel Treasure Island. The articles included cover a brief history of music piracy , ship-wrecked themed pubs, photos and even an article on the dedication or better said, lack of dedication from parrots. Such a great way to take a topic and spin it into a much wider scope.

The Happy Reader is associated with Penguin Books and at the end of the issue a book is selected that is available from Penguin as the next book club selection. Readers are to have it read by the launch of  the next issue. Another aspect that I just really enjoyed. Readers are then welcome to send in their thoughts and comments to be possibly published in the next issue.

The Happy Reader is a really great collection of thoughtful pieces that explore a topic from various angles and provide some really insightful ideas, information and anecdotes. It's an accessible and comfortable read which I find really refreshing. So pleased to have come across it.
