Melanie Abrantes

The work of Melanie Abrantes is just stunning. Abrantes hand carves and uses the lathe to design and craft stunning pieces out of different wood varieties and cork. The forms and shapes she achieves are wonderfully elegant and compliment the texture of the materials well. Some of the forms Abrantes creates I had no idea were possible with materials such as cork, I have been pleasantly surprised.

Much of Abrantes work is also created using off cut wood meaning much less material is ending up wasted or in a landfill. The work of Melanie Abrantes is such a amazing exploration of material and form, her passion and curiosity really shines through. I cannot wait to see where her explorations take us next!
