Katrien de Blauwer

The work of artist Katrien de Blauwer is so incredible. Using found images she composes work that is nostalgic, familiar and in some ways haunting.

The female form appears in much of her work which I think is what helps her work appear familiar. There are bodies here that we relate to, that we see ourselves in and that helps us connect with the work.

It could also be said that by using found images, there is a possibility that the images we see in Katrien de Blauwer’s work have come across our paths before or perhaps they haven’t. The way de Blauwer’s work triggers and influences our memory is incredibly intriguing and results in some simply beautiful work.
