Welcome

Charlotte Perriand

Charlotte Perriand

If you are in London in the near future I really recommend heading to The Design Museum and taking the exhibition there dedicated to modernist designer Charlotte Perriand.

First of all, it’s so great to see a major museum hosting such an extensive exhibition dedicated to a womxn designer. Thank you Design Museum London.

Originally turned down for a job with Le Corbusier because ‘we don’t embroider cushions here’, Perriand didn’t let that phase her. She then went on to become one of the most important and influential designers of her time. Starting with a necklace made of ball bearings, Perriand went on to design furniture, lighting, interior design spaces and eventually architecture. One included a huge ski lodge that was built into the slope of a mountainside.

From actual furniture and lighting designed by Perriand to sketchbook pages showing her drawings and notes during the design process to full mockups of her interior spaces to architecture models the exhibition is so thorough and intriguing.

I love that Charlotte Perriand existed and persevered to work during a time when design truly was ‘a man’s world’. She did incredible, significant work and I’m so glad she is being recognised and celebrated.

The Design Museum did not pay me or ask me to write this blog post. I went on my own accord and decided to blog about my experience because I was so impressed by the exhibition. This was not a sponsored post. :)

All images are my own.
