Sound Advice
I recently finished this London based publication, Sound Advice. The pages are filled with responses to the black squares posted on Instagram after the tragic death of George Floyd. Many of the contributors are designers of various specialties who speak openly, directly and frankly about how badly we need to change the way we design to start breaking down racial inequalities. A black square on Instagram and a carefully manicured statement on a website about standing with the black community is not enough. We need to actually do something. Writers speak of their own experiences and many about how we as designers need to change the built environment to help end systematic racism.
This was an eye opening read and I’m so thankful that everyone involved was able to make this happen. As a designer myself I now know how to start making changes in the work that I do and hopefully that will help instigate bigger change.
