I start off ceramics week with a local designer from London. The work of Grace McCarthy I find so intriguing as she has created a collection of work that pushes the boundaries of how ceramics are used.
The shelves are a fantastic example of using this tradition material and craft in a new application. The shelf becomes a functional piece of furniture and a beautifully crafted object.
The application of colour and pattern to her work is also such a lovely departure from standard colouring of ceramics. The splashes and swirls of colour dance and move across her work adding movement and vibrancy to her minimalist designs.
I also had the chance to say hello to Grace McCarthy this weekend at the ceramics market in London. She's also just a really lovely human, I fan-girled hard.
