BEEN
BEEN is a London based design studio that has so many great things going on.
What started out as an interest in how to use waste as a material has turned into an entire company dedicated to designing bags that utlise waste material like pineapple leaves, discarded uniforms and clothing and even apple skins. These unique materials have a much lower impact on the environment during their manufacturing process which is done by people who are treated and paid fairly in their East London studio.
All of the designs from BEEN are great pieces of minimalist, functional design. All of the designs have wonderful details that make them so special and the colours BEEN works with are just fabulous.
I love and respect the determination of BEEN to using what already exists in the world to bring their designs to life. The fashion industry does get a hard time about its consumption and waste but really all industries need to work harder to reduce but also pair up with amazing companies like BEEN who can benefit from such a partnership.
I truly hope that the future of design is gradually filled with more and more studios like BEEN.
